The captain of the Macalester football team both before and after World War II, Ted Anderson had an outstanding football career for the Fighting Scots. A starting fullback on winning teams in 1940, 1941 and 1942, Anderson was captain of the '42 squad and was just one of two players on the team named first team All-State fullback by both the Minneapolis Star and the St. Paul Piotzeer Press. "His blocking was hard and accurate, and his tackling was a notable feature in every game," pointed out the Mac Weekly. Anderson returned to Macalester in 1946 and again was named team co-captain. In the season's first game Anderson scored a touchdown and blocked a punt, but what surely would have been a great season came to an abrupt finish later in that game when he suffered a broken vertebra, forcing him to miss the rest of his senior campaign.

Anderson coached Macalester's freshman team in 1947 and since then has enjoyed a successful 25-year career as a teacher and head coach in Dassell and Detroit Lakes.
