Jack Roach started his tennis career at Macalester in the Spring of this sophomore year and for each of the three years that he played, he made the finals of the MIAC singles championship.  Roach won the conference singles championship during his junior campaign, defeating his old high school doubles partner to claim the title.  As a senior he again reached the MIAC singles finals.

Roach achieved coaching success following his playing career at Macalester and in 1967 was chosen to coach and manage the national team at the Pan-American Games in Canada.  In 1968 Roach was elected into the Minnesota Tennis Hall of Fame, and he has been active in the growth of the inner City Tennis Program in the Twin Cities.  He was involved in the growth of tennis in the USPTA Northern Section, an organization he has served as a board director and president.  In 2003 he was presented with the first-ever Lifetime Achievement Award to be known as the Jack Roach Award.
