Hall of Fame
Every great soccer team often has a standout goalkeeper, and the Macalester women’s soccer teams of the late 1990s had Anna Bacho Flory. Anna became the Scots’ primary goalkeeper her sophomore year in 1997, and the team didn’t lose a MIAC game over the next three years. Her career numbers speak for themselves: 66 victories, 49 shutouts, just 28 goals allowed and a miniscule 0.38 goals against average, which translates to about a goal every three games. In the national-championship season of 1998, Anna gave up six goals in 22 games while posting 15 shutouts. The 15th clean sheet that year came in the NCAA final, as Anna made six saves in a 1-0 quadruple-overtime win. As a senior she earned All-MIAC and All-Region honors with 16 shutouts, as the Scots advanced to the NCAA final again. Anna currently works as a consulting teacher in Seattle, Wash., developing and advising novice teachers and central office staff on anti-racist teaching practices and institutionalizing racial equity.
