Sona Muzikarova came to Macalester from Bratislava, Slovakia in 2005 and made an immediate impact on the Scots’ volleyball team. In her first year she led the Scots and ranked second in the MIAC in hitting percentage as an outside hitter and was named the MIAC and Central Region Freshman of the Year. As a sophomore, Sona paced Macalester with 323 kills, including 216 kills against MIAC competition to rank second in the conference and earn All-MIAC honors. After studying abroad as a junior, she returned to the court and picked up where she left off, leading the team again in kills and aces en route to being named the Scots’ MVP. Currently, Sona ranks eighth on Macalester’s all-time list for kills with 896 in 75 career matches. An economics and international studies major, she returned to Slovakia and is a political economist, author and policy consultant specializing in the region of Central and Eastern Europe. Sona also is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Harvard Kennedy School and Mason Fellow.
