Committee Statement of Purpose
The Macalester Athletics DEI committee works to create learning opportunities, sustain conversations, and implement practices that integrate diversity, equity and inclusion into the daily structure of the athletic department. This work is paramount to the health, success, and growth of our athletics community. Our goal is to sustain a community committed to respecting, celebrating, and embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Recognize and address diversity, equity and inclusion related but not limited to:

STAFF ENGAGEMENT & CONTINUING EDUCATION
  • Monthly Newsletters: Providing resources, articles, and information to departmental staff for individual engagement
  • Coaches' Corner: Creating recurring space and opportunities for information-sharing and discussions relating to current topics
  • Staff Meeting Breakouts: Sharing DEI articles/resources in advance of staff meetings in order to facilitate conversation and reflections
  • Large Group Educationals: Partnering with third-party organizations and/or presenters to provide deeper understanding and comprehension of DEI topics

The Macalester Athletics DEI Committee is committed to working alongside and in support of Macalester College and other departmental efforts to create a more inclusive, respectful, and understanding community. This includes but not limited to:
STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
PAAM: Pride Athletes At Macalester: PAAM’s mission is to create a safe space for Intramural, Club and Varsity LGBTQIA+ athletes. Our focuses include cultivating a space of inclusion in the athletic department, teaming with the administration to ensure a safe and equitable environment for all LGBTQIA+ athletes, and creating community across sports and the Macalester

BIPOCa: The purpose of the BIPOCa is to provide a community for student-athletes of color. We will hold spaces for student athletes of all sports--varsity, club, intramural-- to enjoy being in the presence of one another to share connections, celebrations, networking, and to to create a sense of belonging in both athletics and Macalester as a whole through our shared passion for sports.
