Tom Hosier, 1979-1989
Tom Hosier took over a football program which was mired in a 42-game losing streak – a team laughed at nationally and soon to break an all-time record for futility – and within just a few short years had the Scots on a streak of four winning seasons in a row as one of the MIAC top teams during the middle 1980's.

Hosier is second to Dwight Steussy on the school's all-time coaching win list and the team's four straight winning seasons from 1983 to 1986 marked the first time that had been accomplished since just before World War II. He and the Scots received nation-wide attention when Mac finally snapped its losing skid at 50 in the 1980 season-opener. Macalester tied a school record for wins and finished second to Concordia in the final MIAC standings in 1986 with a team which set an NCAA record which still exists today by forcing 58 turnovers.

Before coming to Macalester, Hosier turned around the football program at Eureka College in Illinois . Winona State University hired coach Hosier to turn its fortunes around shortly after he left Macalester and once again Coach Hosier brought winning ways to the football program, winning a conference title in 1993.
