McCallum was named All-State quarterback in both 1913 and 1914, and was also named Tri-State quarterback in 1914.

The Mac, 1914, gave the following tribute  "He is another who has grown-up under the influence of 'Mac' football, playing on the college team for two seasons while yet in the Academy.  He played a hard game and was a tower of strength on defense. He always gave all he had until used up, and then only gave way to the substitute."

McCallum returned to Macalester in 1919 to coach several sprots for many years. He now resides in St. Paul.
