In May of 1936, Macalester athletic director D.C. Primrose saw Dr. H. Ransom Goins running for the Central High track team in the St. Paul City High School Meet.  Mr. Primrose liked what he was of Dr. Goins and convinced him to attend Macalester and run for the College's powerhouse track team.

Dr. Goins competed and lettered in track and field and football during his four years at Macalester.  At the 1937 State Meet, Dr. Goins was a member of the mile relay team that set a state record.  He also set a state record in the 120 yard high hurdles.  Both records stood for many years.  In addition to his impressive track performances, Dr. Goins was a tackle on the Macalester freshman and varsity football squads for four years.

Dr. Goins graduated from Macalester in 1940 with a chemistry degree and a minor in mathematics.  After graduation he worked as a chemist and took graduate courses in chemistry.  He later served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

In 1958, Dr. Groins graduated from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis.  After working as a chiropractor in Atlanta, Dr. Goins returned to the Twin Cities and taught at Northwestern College of Chiropractic for 15 years.  During that time he directed several chemistry and clinical diagnostic laboratories and also was a member of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.

Dr. Goins retired in 1980 and moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he and his wife Helen spend their winters.  During the summer they travel around the West.  In addition to their travels, Dr. and Mrs. Goins have become advanced level square dancers in their retirement years.
