Hall of Fame
Bernard "Bud" Bjerken participated in three varsity sports at Macalester - football, hockey, and baseball - capturing 10 letters and several awards.
Mr. Bjerken earned four football letters for the Scots as an offensive end, quarterback, and defensive back. He was twice selected to the all-MIAC team as an offensive end, was voted the Scots' most valuable player in 1961 and was named to the 1961 Little All-American team.
During his senior year, Mr. Bjerken helped lead Macalester to a 6-3 record including a 15-14 homecoming win over Saint John's. He caught 33 passes and finished second in the NAIA in per-game receiving yardage, averaging 88.1 yards per game.
Mr. Bkerken earned three hockey letters as a center and defenseman, and captained the Scots to the 1962 MIAC title. He was coached by Henry Frantzen, also a Macalester Hall of Fame inductee. Mr. Bjerken led the Scots in scoring during his senior year. He also earned three baseball letters as a starting shortstop.
Mr. Bjerken resides in Edina, Minnesota.
