Ronald R. DeLapp, Macalester "Athlete of the Year" in 1943, was twice selected All-State in basketball and he captained the 1943 state champion track and field team.
Mr. DeLapp led the MIAC in scoring during the 1942-43 season with 182 points. The high-scoring guard-forward was the third leading scorer in the state in his junior season. He was selected All-State honorable mention in his sophomore year.
On the track, Mr. DeLapp tied the state pole vault record his sophomore year in 1941 with a vault of 11 feet 6 inches.
His other Macalester activities included: president of his sophomore class, band, glee club, Inter-varsity Bible Study, Y.M.C.A., and Scots Club.
Following his graduation from Macalester, Mr. DeLapp served two years as a naval officer during World War II, and then returned to Minnesota to begin a career as an educator. After earning his M.A. and Ed. D. degrees in educational administration, he served as a teacher, coach, and administrator in the Minneapolis public school system for 27 years, retiring in 1979. He is now pursuing a business career with the Ro-Lapp Corp.
Mr. DeLapp is past president of the board of directors of the Minnesota State High School League. He has also served on the National Council of Churches Education in the Society Committee and the National Committee of Ministries in Public Education of the United Presbyterian Church.
This past year Mr. DeLapp served as chairman of the Minneapolis Public Schools' Citizens Advisory Committee on Chemical Awareness.
He now lives in Minneapolis.
