During the four years he was at Macalester College, Bruce R. Pagel was never far from the basketball backboard.  A four-year lettered athlete in basketball, Pagel is the fourth-leading scorer in Macalester history.  The record led to his becoming an all-conference selection in his senior year.  Pagel, who wore number 25 on his jersey, was known as an aggressive player who was good at defense.  Captain of the basketball team when he was a junior, he also lettered in baseball and track.

After graduation with a B.S. in mathematics, Pagel began a teaching and coaching career in Minnesota.  He wanted to pursue a personal dream - working with teenagers in junior high and high school and having an impact on their lives.  Then he passed up administrative positions to remain in the classroom.  He taught two years in Balaton, two years in Detroit Lakes, and eight years in Blue Earth.  He was a math teacher and assistant basketball coach for 13 years at Hopkins Lindbergh High School.  Currently he teaches mathematics at Hopkins West Junior High.

Pagel , who lives in Minnetonka, has also been active in his church with youth work, serving on a committee that advises the youth group.  Professionally he is involved in both the Minnesota and National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and the Minnesota Education Association and the National Education Association.

He and his wife, Carol Carlson Pagel (Class of 1959), have been married for 29 years.  They have three children, David, Amy, And Angie.

In recognition of his distinctive athletic achievements and his leadership as both a student and a professional, Macalester College proudly inducted Bruce R. Pagel into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
