Gerald L. Dreier set two Macalester basketball records that still stand today.  He was most noted for his basketball play as a four-year letter winner, but he also participated and lettered in track and field as a freshman and sophomore.

Mr. Dreier, who played center on the Macalester basketball team, set the single game scoring record for Macalester in 1955.  He pumped in 43 points at the College Field House in a game against the University of Minnesota - Duluth.  He went on to become Macalester's all-time leading scorer with 1,529 career points.  Neither school record has been broken.  Mr. Dreier was named to the All-Conference basketball team three years, was co-captain on the team his senior year, and was runner-up for St. Paul Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1957.  He finished his Macalester athletic career with six varsity letters.

Mr. Dreier also was involved in the Scots Club and Athenian Club at Macalester.  One of his college highlights was meeting Olympic pole vault champion Bob Richards at the Field House dedication in December 1956.

After Mr. Dreier graduated from Macalester in 1957 with a B.S. in business administration, he worked at the First National Bank of Minneapolis for eight years.  In 1956 he went into sales and currently is working for G.D. VanWagenen Co., a Minneapolis General Insurance Co.  He is a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and is active in Ducks Unlimited.
