During his senior year, Quentin B. Crawford became the first president of the newly formed Macalester College student government.  It was the culmination of a very busy student career that included lettering in several sports as well as majoring in two disciplines, but it was indicative of both his organizational capabilities and the drive and determination that have been characteristic of Crawford throughout his life.

Crawford was captain of the tennis team in 1927 and 1928 - during his second year the team won the state championship.  When he became team captain, tennis was not a recognized sport at Macalester, and no letters were given in it.

Crawford played on the football team as a senior.  The team tied for second place in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference that year, and undoubtedly would have taken first place had it not lost nearly half its players and injuries.  Crawford, 6 feet 3 inches tall, was also an aggressive member of the basketball team for two years, playing center primarily, but also forward and guard as well.

In addition, he lettered in track in his sophomore and junior years, running both the high and low hurdles and broadjumping.  For a brief time, he held the school record for the high jump.

Crawford was also active in M Club.  President several times, he was on the board for more than 25 years.

Crawford majored in both history and social and political science, and after graduation he worked for the Hancock Nelson Grocery House for one year.  After that he ran the Minnesota Cooperative Buyers Association.  Just before World War II, he took over his father's business, Cheese Products Company, and became a cheese assembler, buying the output of cheese factories for resale.  He retired in 1966.

Crawford's energies have also been directed toward community affairs.  He has been a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Saint Paul Optimists Club.  At Merriam Park Presbyterian Church, he served as a trustee for 25 years and taught Sunday school for 12 years.  For a time, he was secretary of the Macalester Alumni Board.  Last year he and his wife Dorothy, who have two children and four grandchildren, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

In honor of his wide-ranging athletic achievements during his college years, and also his student, alumni, and civic leadership, Macalester proudly inducted Quentin B. Crawford into the Athletic Hall of Fame.
