Brandon Guthrie was a successful distance runner for Macalester’s cross country and track & field teams, earning 12 All-MIAC honors. He finished in the top 20 at the MIAC cross country championships three times, including an eighth-place finish as a junior and a runner-up finish as a senior. In 1999, Brandon placed fifth at the NCAA Central Region meet to earn a trip to the national meet, where he took 40th. On the track indoors, he won MIAC titles in the 3000 meters in 1999 and in the two-mile run in 1998. Brandon earned All-MIAC status three times in the steeplechase, two times in both the 3000 and 5000 meters indoors, and once in the 5000 outdoors and the two-mile indoors. He continues to run recreationally while also enjoying climbing, mountaineering and cross country skiing. A biology major at Macalester, Brandon is an associate professor in global health and epidemiology at the University of Washington.
