Ms. Campbell, women's athletic director at Macalester from 1924 - 1931, is the first woman to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.  Her career at Macalester portrayed her belief that recreation and physical activities should be made available to all Macalester students.

Ms. Campbell graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1924 with a bachelor's degree in physical education.  She joined the Macalester faculty as the first women's physical education teacher.  In the spring of 1925 she organized the Women's Athletic Association (W.A.A.), an organization which offered team and individual sports activities to Macalester women.  Ms. Campbell and members of her group organized the College's annual May fete, an all-school field meet, and managed six major sports.  They also cooperated with other states' colleges in the Playday Program, the predecessor to women's intercollegiate sports.

Ms. Campbell left Macalester in 1930 to complete her master's degree at Columbia University.  She continued her career in education by taking positions at State College, Dickinson, North Dakota, the University of New Mexico, and the Minneapolis Y.W.C.A.

At the onset of World War II, Ms. Campbell recognized the need for physical therapists in the United States Army.  Following a six month training course at the Mayo Clinic, she served five years with the army reserve in New Guinea and the Phillipines and completed her service at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco.  She continued her work as a physical therapist until 1959, when she retired.  She now resides at Presbyterian Home, Lake Johanna.
