Sheila Brewer spent 32 years at Macalester as an administrator, professor and coach, impacting the lives of many student-athletes through parts four decades. She played an important role in the early years of women’s athletics, coaching multiple sports. Her most successful sport was volleyball, as Sheila led the Scots to 350 victories and three MIAC championships in 13 seasons. Her 1980 squad won 58 matches, captured both the state and Region 6 tournaments and finished seventh at the AIAW national tournament. In 1983, Sheila became the first woman to serve as athletic director for both men's and women's sports at a MIAC institution. She passed away at the age of 80 in 2018.
