E. Schuyler "Sky" Wilcox excelled as a player, captain and all-state winner while at Macalester. Since then, he has also become known throughout Minnesota for his experience as a high school wrestling coach.
He was the winner of 10 letters in four different Macalester sports - three in football, four in hockey, two in baseball and one in track. As a guard and place-kicker for the football team, he earned All-State honors for three consecutive years (1925-27). In 1924, he became captain of the track team. That year, he set a state record for the long jump (21'5") and was part of a mile-long relay team that set a Macalester record. He also was captain of the College's hockey team.
Following graduation from Macalester, Mr. Wilcox taught and coached for 43 years in high schools in Lisbon, N.D., and Mound and Austin, Minn. He was named a member of the Minnesota Wrestling Hall of Fame and received a 25-year service award from the NCAA Wrestling Coaches Association. A resident of Austin, Minn., he is a past president and secretary of the Minnesota High School Wrestling Coaches Association.
