Hall of Fame
Henry J. "Hank" Frantzen made his mark at Macalester over a 15-year span as hockey coach from 1949-1966. He led the Scots to four MIAC hockey titles - 1949, 1950, 1962, 1963 - and achieved a 9-2 win-loss record in 1952 and a 12-2 record in 1963. During the late 1950's and early 1960's, Coach Frantzen's charges were known as the power hockey team in the MIAC.
Mr. Frantzen's players characterized him as witty and having a good sense of humor. But during games he was very intense, and this intensity carried over to his players.
In addition to his coaching duties, Mr. Frantzen spent nearly 20 years as a high school and collegiate hockey referee. He officiated at several Minnesota state hockey tournaments and three NCAA hockey tournaments.
Prior to his retirement in 1978, Mr. Frantzen was employed by the Saint Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company.
Mr. Frantzen resides in St. Paul.
