By the time Karin Halvorson concluded her tenure as a member of Macalester’s swimming & diving team, her name appeared in front of many events on the Scots’ record board. A freestyle specialist, she earned All-MIAC honors five times in her career and won two conference championships. Karin won the 1650-yard freestyle at the 1998 and 2000 MIAC Championships and placed second in the event in 1999. She qualified for the NCAA Championships in 1999 and placed 15th at nationals to earn All-American status. At one point, Karin held the school records in the freestyle from 200 to 1500 meters, and also held the 200-meter backstroke record. After graduating from Macalester with a degree in biology, she competed in triathlons, completing the Half-Iron Man in Aix, France. Karin lives in Wailuku, Hawaii, where she is a physician specializing in pulmonary and critical care. She continues to swim and enjoys Pilates and yoga.
