ST. PAUL, Minn. - Five members of the Macalester College men's track & field team finished in the top three of their events at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships to earn All-MIAC status, as the conference announced its indoor track & field awards today. Additionally, two Macalester relay teams placed in the top six to receive All-MIAC honorable mention. The MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships were held Feb. 26-28 at Carleton College.
In the track events, sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished second in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:27.47. Senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) took second in the 5000 meters in 15:08.21, while junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) earned All-MIAC honors for the first time with a third-place finish in the 3000 meters in 8:38.51.
In the field events, senior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) earned his first top-3 finish at the MIAC Championships by taking second in the weight throw with a toss of 17.10 meters (56-1.25). Sophomore
Ataa Mensah (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) garnered All-MIAC status by taking second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.14 meters (46-4.75).
On Friday, the Scots' distance medley relay team of junior
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate), senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), first year
Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) and Hoisington placed fourth in 10:24.74. Also on Friday, the 4x200-meter relay team of Schonebaum, first years
Michael Zhao (Beijing, China/Lake Ridge Academy) and
Drew Morral (Philippi, W. Va./Philip Barbour) and senior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) finished sixth in 1:32.70.
Macalester scored 53 points in the team scoring to tie for seventh out of 11 teams at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.
