NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team wrapped up competition at the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at St. Olaf. The Scots ended up in ninth place in the team standings with 30 points.
Sophomore
Ataa Mensah (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) provided the highlights for the Scots, earning All-MIAC honors in two events. Earlier in the day, he cleared 1.94 meters (6-4.25) in the high jump to finish in second place. Towards the end of the meet, Mensah took third in the triple jump with a personal-best leap of 14.24 meters (46-8.75). The mark ranks fourth on Macalester's all-time performance list.
Also turning in a personal-best performance was sophomore
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown), who finished seventh in the shot put with a toss of 14.86 meters (48-9). The throw ranks fourth all-time at Macalester.
On the track, junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) finished in eighth place in the 5000 meters in 15:16.10, one spot ahead of senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal), who was ninth in 15:17.17. Senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) made the finals in the 400 meters and placed ninth with a time of 50.39. The Scots' 4x400-meter relay team of first years
Drew Morral (Philippi, W.Va./Philip Barbour) and
Andrew Lamb (Danville, Ky./Danville Independent), senior
Thomas Malecha (Faribault, Minn.) and Schonebaum finished in eighth with a time of 3:28.46.
Macalester will send select athletes to last chance meets next week in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the end of May.
