ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team performed well at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday evening at Carleton College. The Scots scored 26 points and are currently in eighth place.
Friday's highlights included senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) finishing second in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:08.21. The performance earned Edwards his first All-MIAC honor in track, which requires a top-3 finish at the championship meet. Senior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) also took second in his specialty, the weight throw, with a toss of 17.10 meters (56-1.25) to earn All-MIAC status for the first time in his career.
Also scoring points was sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who placed seventh in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.01. Macalester's distance medley relay team of junior
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate), senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), first year
Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) and junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) placed fourth in 10:24.74, which is fifth on Macalester's all-time performance list.
Also in the relays, the 4x200-meter relay team of Schonebaum, first years
Michael Zhao (Beijing, China/Lake Ridge Academy) and
Drew Morral (Philippi, W. Va./Philip Barbour) and senior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) finished sixth in 1:32.70, the sixth-best time in program history.
Stefanowicz also qualified for the finals of the 55-meter hurdles by posting the sixth-fastest time of 7.96 in the prelims. The time ranks fourth all-time at Macalester. He will race in the finals on Saturday at 1:25 p.m.
The MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Carleton. The field events begin at 11:45 a.m., with the track events starting at 1:00 p.m.
