ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College sophomore John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) was selected the MIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week for the week ending Feb. 15, the conference announced today. Ihrke broke the school record in winning the 1000 meters at Carleton's Meet of Hearts on Saturday.

Ihrke's time of 2:27.43 breaks the old mark of 2:30.6 (hand-timed), set by Bob Clark in 1983. The time is the fastest in the MIAC this year and currently ranks third (when converted to 2:25.43 to account for a flat track) in Division III.

This is the third indoor track school record that Ihrke has broken this season. On Jan. 31 at the St. Olaf Invitational, he broke his own program record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.39. Then on Feb. 7 at the Gopher Classic, Ihrke posted a time of 4:15.66 in the mile to break the school record in that event. Along with his top ranking in the 1000, he also ranks second in the MIAC in the 800 and third in the mile. Ihrke's converted time of 1:51.94 in the 800 ranks 13th nationally in Division III.

The Scots compete at the Tostrud Classic, hosted by St. Olaf College on Friday, Feb. 20.
