ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team travels to Northfield this weekend for the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Feb. 27-28 at Carleton College. The field events begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 11:45 a.m., while the track events start at 4:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.
This has been an outstanding season so far for sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who has broken school records in the 800 meters, 1000 meters and the mile while posting the sixth-fastest time (1:52.48) in the 800 in Division III this year. The defending MIAC indoor champion in the 800, Ihrke will compete in the 800 and 1000 this weekend.
Also on the track, senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) enters the meet with the fourth-fastest time in the 5000 meters in the MIAC, and Edwards and junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) are ranked seventh and eighth, respectively among competitors in the 3000 meters. Senior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic), who holds the school record in the 60-meter hurdles, is ranked sixth in the MIAC in the 55-meter hurdles.
In the field events, sophomore
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) enters the MIAC Championships with the second-best mark in the triple jump this season (14.19/46-6.75). He also is ranked seventh in the high jump. Senior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill), who has broken the school record in the weight throw twice this season, is ranked fourth among MIAC competitors with a toss of 17.25 meters (56-7.25).
