ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team began the outdoor season at the Hamline Invitational Monday afternoon. No team scores were kept.
In the track events, senior
Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) finished fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:00.13. In the 1500 meters, junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) took fifth in 3:58.71, which ranks eighth all-time at Macalester. Senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and junior
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) finished right behind Hoisington in sixth and seventh, respectively. Senior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) placed fifth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.63, which is seventh on the Scots' all-time performance list. Senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) finished seventh in the 400 meters in a personal-best time of 50.54.
Triple jumpers
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) and
Garner Miyagawa (Encinitas, Calif./San Dieguito Academy) led the Scots' efforts in the field events. Mensah took third with a leap of 13.55 meters (44-5.5), while Miyagawa was fourth with a mark of 12.14 (39-10). First year
Sam Perkins (Jacksonville, Fla./Episcopal School of Jacksonville) finished second in the javelin with a throw of 39.69 meters (130-2). Sophomore
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) earned a third-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 14.15 meters (46-5.25). Senior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) placed sixth in the hammer throw with a toss of 47.17 meters (154-9).
The Scots will send their distance runners to UW-Platteville on Friday, April 10, while the rest of the team will compete in the Bethel Invitational on Saturday, April 11.
