NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Macalester College men's track and field team competed at the St. Olaf Invitational this weekend. While the meet had no team scores, six Scots posted top-three finishes across events.
Sophomore
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) headlined the day for Mac in the field with a 13.47-meter leap to win the triple jump. Mensah also placed eighth in the high jump with a 1.80-meter mark. Senior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) placed third in the weight throw with a 16.05-meter toss that eclipsed his own school record. Sophomore
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) logged a personal best 12.46 meters in the weight throw and placed fifth in the shot put with a 13.58-meter throw.
On the track, senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) placed second in the 400 meters in 51.91. Sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) logged a second-place finish of his own in the 800 meters in 1:53.91.
For the long-distance Scots, senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) placed third in the 5,000 meters in 15:17.61. Junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) placed fifth in the 3,000 meters in 8:46.73. First-year
Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) notched the 102nd-best time in the country in the 1,000 meters with a 2:36.42 finish for sixth place.
In the 60-meter hurdles, seniors
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) and
Hamza Mahamud (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) placed third and fourth, respectively. Mahamud's 8.92-second finish marked a personal best.
The Scots return on Saturday, Feb. 7 for the Gopher Classic in Minneapolis, Minn.
