NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team competed on the final day of the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday afternoon at Carleton College. The Scots had three more All-MIAC performers and scored 53 points to tie for seventh in the team standings.
On the track, sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished second in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:27.47, holding off St. Olaf's Cullen Moore (2:27.85) while trailing Saint John's Cole Stencel by just .03 seconds. Ihrke's time is .04 seconds off his school record set at the same track on Feb. 14.
In the 3000 meters, junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) earned All-MIAC honors with a third-place finish in 8:38.51. The time ranks fifth on Macalester's all-time performance list. Senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal), who was second in the 5000 meters on Friday, finished sixth with a time of 8:42.81 to receive All-MIAC honorable mention.
The 4x400-meter relay team of senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), first year
Andrew Lamb (Danville, Ky./Danville Independent), Ihrke and first year
Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) took eighth in 3:29.53.
In the field events, sophomore
Ataa Mensah (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) garnered All-MIAC status by placing second in the triple jump with a leap of 14.14 meters (46-4.75), two inches off his personal best. Sophomore
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) took eighth in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 13.97 meters (45-10), which is tied for fourth all-time at Macalester.
The Scots will send a contingent to the Wartburg Final Qualifier Mar. 6-7 in Waverly, Iowa.
