ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team wrapped up competition at the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Macalester Stadium. The Scots, who hosted the meet for the first time since 2015, ended up with 37 points to take ninth in the team standings.
Senior
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) ran a season-best time of 47.41 to take third in the 400 meters behind Bethel's Grant Nelson (46.20) and Jacob Parent (46.33), who posted the top two times in Division III in the race. Heitler's time currently ranks 26th in Division III. First year
Karson Sammons (Portland, Ore./Westview) also competed in the final and placed ninth in 49.90.
In the 800 meters, first year
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished third with a time of 1:51.97 to earn All-MIAC honors. Senior
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) finished ninth in 1:57.43.
Macalester had eight runners compete in the 5000 meters, with senior
Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) taking seventh with a time of 15:19.99. Senior
Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) narrowly missed scoring with a ninth-place finish in 15:26.11.
The Scots closed out the meet with a third-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay. The foursome of Sammons, Ali, senior
Jeff Wang (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) and Ihrke ran a season-best time of 3:18.36, which ranks second all-time at Macalester.
In the field events, senior
Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) earned All-MIAC honors by taking third in the triple jump with a leap of 13.83 meters (45-4.5). The mark ranks eighth on Macalester's all-time performance list. First year
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) also scored in the triple jump, taking seventh with a leap of 13.50 (44-3.5).
Senior
Aiden Yang (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) placed sixth in the javelin with a throw of 52.48 (172-2) to receive All-MIAC honorable mention. First year
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) had a personal best in the shot put, taking seventh with a toss of 14.67 (48-1.75), which ranks sixth all-time at Macalester.
The Scots will send a select group to the Augustana Midwest Twilight Qualifier May 14-15 in Rock Island, Ill.
