ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) was included on the All-North Region team for the 800 meters by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced today. Athletes must be ranked in the top eight regionally in an individual event, or top three in a relay to receive All-Region honors.
Ihrke ran a school-record time of 1:52.48 at the University of Minnesota's Snowshoe Open on Feb. 20. His converted time of 1:50.90 not only is the third-fastest time in the North Region, it ranks eighth in Division III and qualified Ihrke for this weekend's NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. In addition to his record in the 800, Ihrke also broke the school records in the 1000 meters and the mile this season. His mile time of 4:15.66 ranks 16th in the North Region. Ihrke also finished second in the 1000 at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 28 to earn All-MIAC honors.
Ihrke is schedule to run in the 800 preliminary heats on Friday, March 13 at 4:00 p.m. Central time. The top eight finishers in the prelims advance to Saturday's finals at 5:00 p.m. The meet will be held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
