COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team is in fourth place after the first full day of competition at the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships Friday at Saint John's University. The Scots posted three All-MIAC performances and scored a total of 40 points.

The highlight of the session was turned in by first year John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who won the 800 meters with a school-record time of 1:54.53. His time eclipses his own record of 1:54.85 and currently ranks 31st in Division III.

Macalester's distance medley relay team of senior Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast), junior Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), senior Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) and senior Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) finished second in 10:18.41 to rank third all-time at Macalester.

Also earning All-MIAC honors was senior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings), who placed third in the 400 meters with a time of 49.05. This is the first All-MIAC award indoors for Heitler, who is a five-time All-MIAC performer outdoors.

In the 5000 meters, three Scots scored points, led by senior Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) in fifth place (15:07.19). Senior Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished sixth in 15:08.21, followed by junior Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) in eighth place with a time of 15:22.55. First year Jack Riley (Wrenshall, Minn./Wrenshall) took seventh in the mile, covering the distance in a personal best time of 4:28.64.

In the field events, junior Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.90 (52-2). Senior Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) finished seventh, posting a personal best throw of 15.84 (51-11.75) to rank second all-time at Macalester.

The MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships conclude on Saturday, Mar. 1, with the field events beginning at 12:00 p.m. and the track events starting at 1:00 p.m. at Saint John's University.
