Men’s Track & Field: Macalester Competes at Norse Invite

DECORAH, Iowa – The Macalester College men's track and field team traveled to Decorah, Iowa to compete at the Norse Invite hosted by Luther College.
 
First years Hamza Mahamud (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) and Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) finished third and fifth respectively in the 110m hurdles with times of 16.73 and 17.19. Sophomore Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 22.19. In the 400m hurdles, senior Mason Bosley (Amery, Wis./Amery) finished seventh, with a personal record time of 59.37. First year Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) finished just behind Bosley in eighth (59.38). Sophomores Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast), Reece McKee (Charlottesville, VA./Charlottesville), and Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished second, fifth, and eighth respectively in the 1500m. Crotteau set a personal record in the event, registering a time of 4:01.38 which is the 10th best time in Macalester history. Senior Cole Peske (Sussex, Wis./Hamilton) and junior Alexander Fendig (Chevy Chase, Md./Sandy Spring Friends School) finished second and third in the 3000m steeplechase respectively. In the 5000m, first year Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) finished third with a personal record time of 15:47.65 while sophomore Aidan Appel (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) also set a personal record (15:54.25) for a fifth-place finish.
 
The 1600m sprint medley team of sophomore Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park), senior Lachlan Witt (Kinnelon, N.J./Morris Catholic), first year Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) and junior Mateo Useche (Pichincha, Ecuador/Colegio Americano de Quito) finished fourth with a time of 3:52.97. Taking third in the 4x400m relay was Heitler, Schonebaum, sophomore Jacob Kogut (Livingston, N.J./Livingston), and graduate student Ryan Kinnucan (Portland, Ore./Grant) with a time of 3:27.88.
 
In the field, senior Victor Wright (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner) set a personal record in the discus throw of 42.25m (138' 7") to finish fifth. Sophomore Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) registered a mark of 40.89m (134' 2") to place eighth in the discus throw. Menache placed third in the hammer throw, throwing for 46.97m (154' 1"). This mark is a personal record for Menache and ranks fourth in Macalester history. Sophomore Aiden Yang (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) finished fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 45.72m (150' 0"). First year Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) finished seventh in the shot put with a mark of 12.29m (40' 4"). Sophomore Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.10m (42' 11.75").
 
Macalester's next meets are scheduled for Saturday April 22. The Scots will compete at the Carleton Relays in Northfield, as well as the Arkansas State University Red Wolf Open.
