ST. PAUL, Minn. - Five members of the Macalester College men's track & field team were recognized by the College Sports Communicators on the Division III Academic All-District Team for cross country and track & field, the CSC announced today. They are seniors
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park),
Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast),
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) and
Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville), and junior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal).
The CSC Academic All-America and All-District program honors student-athletes for excellence in both academics and athletics. Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and have a top 50 performance in the region in an individual event or at the cross country regional meet to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
Ali had his best season as a Scot, winning the 600 meters at the MIAC Indoor Championships. He also earned All-MIAC honors as a member of the Scots' distance medley relay team, which finished second indoors, and 4x400-meter relay team outdoors, which took second at the MIAC Outdoor Championships. Ali, who made the Academic All-MIAC Team in each of the past two years, majored in international studies and economics at Macalester.
Crotteau has helped the Scots' distance medley relay team finish second three years straight at the MIAC indoor Championships. He also has posted four All-MIAC honorable mention performances on the track during his career. Also a key part of the men's cross country team the past four years, Crotteau helped Macalester place third this past fall at the MIAC Championships. A mathematics major, he was included on the Academic All-District Team in 2023 and is a two-time Academic All-MIAC honoree.
Heitler is making his third appearance on the Academic All-District Team after another record-setting season on the track. Indoors, Heitler was named All-MIAC in the 400 meters and qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, where he finished 12th in the 400 to receive All-American honorable mention. Outdoors, he broke the school record in the 100 and 200 meters and placed third in the 400 at the MIAC Championships for his seventh All-MIAC performance of his career. Also an honorable mention All-American in the 400 outdoors in 2024, Heitler holds six individual school records. He majored in economics at Macalester and made the Academic All-MIAC Team twice.
McKee also is a three-time Academic All-District and Academic All-MIAC honoree. A two-time All-MIAC runner in cross country, he placed 11th at the 2024 MIAC Cross Country Championships. In 2023, McKee earned All-MIAC and All-Region honors, becoming the first Scot to do so since 2009. On the track this year, he finished fifth in the 5000 indoors to receive All-MIAC honorable mention and broke the school record in the mile. McKee also holds school records in the 3000 and 5000 meters indoors and is a part of the school record-setting distance medley relay team. He graduated with a degree in geology.
Edwards was the first Scot across the finish line at the MIAC Cross Country Championships this past fall, taking 10th to earn All-MIAC honors. He also led Macalester at the NCAA North Region Meet, finishing 41st. On the track Edwards posted two top-five finishes at the MIAC Indoor and Outdoor Championships to receive All-MIAC honorable mention. Also a two-time Academic All-District Team member, he is majoring in economics.
