Men’s Track & Field: Macalester Geared Up for MIAC Championships

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team heads to the MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held at St. Olaf this weekend. The field events begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the track events start at 2:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

The Scots have multiple performers on the track who are in position to finish in the top eight in their events. Sophomore John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) looks to add to his accolades this season in the 800 meters, as he has the fifth-fastest time in the MIAC this season. Senior Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) has a good chance to score in both the 5000 and 10,000 meters this year, as he ranks in the top six in both races. Senior Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) and junior Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) are ranked ninth in the 400 and 1500 meters, respectively.

In the field events, Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) is one of the favorites in both the high jump and the triple jump, ranking in the top three in both events. Senior Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) is among the top 10 in both the discus and the hammer throw. Sophomore Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) ranks eighth in the shot put.

Tickets for the Friday and Saturday sessions are $13 for adults and $4 for students per session. All ticket sales will be handled online by HomeTown Ticketing.
