LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Macalester College men's track & field sent five athletes to the UW-La Crosse Final Qualifier, held Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Stadium. No team scores were kept.
The highlight of the meet for the Scots was turned in by senior
Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton), who finished fourth in the 1500 with a school-record time of 3:50.05. The old mark of 3:50.98 was set by
Wade Eckstrom '10 in 2009. The time also ranks 43rd in Division III this season. Senior
Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) also competed in the 1500 and placed 18th in 3:58.84, which is eighth on Macalester's all-time performance list.
In the 800 meters, first year
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) took third with a time of 1:52.69. The time is not an improvement on his season-best time of 1:51.70, which ranks 43rd in Division III. Senior
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) finished eighth in the 800 in 1:57.42.
The Scots' lone competitor in the field events was senior
Aiden Yang (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene), who placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 53.21 meters (174-4).
Senior
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings), who did not compete on Wednesday, still has the 26th-best time in the 400 meters this season. He will learn if he has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships when the field is announced on Friday, May 16.
