ST. PAUL, Minn. - First year
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) continued his impressive debut season with a victory in the 800 meters, as the Macalester College men's track & field team competed at the Meet of the UnSaintly, held Wednesday at Hamline University. No team scores were kept.
Ihrke won the 800 with a time of 1:51.70, which currently ranks 23rd in Division III and first in the MIAC this season. He also moves up to second on Macalester's all-time performance list behind only Hall of Famer
David Hodge '70, who holds the school record at 1:50.2 (hand-timed).
Senior
Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville) finished sixth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a season-best time of 9:42.70. Junior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Westview) posted a personal-best time of 16.07 in the 110-meter high hurdles to take ninth. The time also ranks ninth all-time at Macalester. In the 1500 meters, senior
Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) broke his PR with a time of 3:53.75 to take 10th. The time improves upon Olsson's previous best of 3:54.00 to rank second in the program's history.
In the field events, first year
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) took 11th in the shot put with a personal-best toss of 14.00 meters (45-11.25), which ranks eighth all-time at Macalester. Junior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) placed 12th in both the hammer throw (46.53/152-8) and the discus (40.66/133-4).
A small contingent of Scots will compete at the St. Olaf Ole Open on Saturday, May 3. The meet will serve as the final competition before the MIAC Track & Field Championships, which will be held at Macalester Stadium on May 9-10.
