COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. — The Macalester College men's track & field team wrapped up the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday at Saint John's University. The Scots finished in fifth place with 70 points. The final day included another All-MIAC performance, as well as a few honorable mentions for Macalester.

Senior Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) headlined the day for the Scots with a first-place finish in the 600m in 1:21.68, the second-best time in program history. This result marks the first individual All-MIAC honors for Ali. First year John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) placed fourth in that race at 1:22.02, just shy of third by .06 seconds and good for third all-time in Mac history, to earn himself an All-MIAC Honorable Mention.

Senior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) also had another strong day with a fourth-place finish in the 200m in a season-best 22.32, breaking his own indoor record at Macalester. Another season-best came from senior Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville), who clocked in at 8:39.26 for eighth place in the 3000m.

Both Mac relay teams that raced on the day recorded season-bests. The 4x200m relay team of senior Jacob Kogut (Livingston, N.J./Livingston), junior Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), Ali and sophomore Danny Powell (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) turned in a time of 1:34.35 for a seventh-place mark. The 4x400m relay team of Schonebaum, Ihrke, sophomore Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) and Ali produced a time of 3:28.85 for an eighth-place mark.

In the field, first year Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) earned an All-MIAC Honorable Mention in the triple jump for a 13.55m (44-0.5) leap that landed him fourth in the event. In eighth in the triple jump was senior Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) who logged a 13.21m (43-4.25) distance.

Some Scots will return to action on Saturday March 8 for the Wartburg Final Qualifier in Waverly, Iowa. The whole team will commence the outdoor season in Waverly a month later on April 5 at the Wartburg Outdoor Select.
