Men’s Track & Field: Scots Head to MIAC Championships

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team is set to compete in the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Feb. 28-Mar. 1 at Saint John's University in Collegeville, Minn. The field events begin on Friday at 4:00 p.m. and on Saturday at 12:00 p.m., while the track events start at 4:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., respectively.

Leading the Scots on the track is senior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings), who ranks third in the MIAC in both the 200 and 400 meters. His best time in the 400 this season (48.99) is the 24th-fastest time in Division III. Last week he broke the school record in the 200 at the Tostrud Classic with a time of 22.34.

First year John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) ranks second in the MIAC in the 800 meters with a school-record time of 1:54.85. He also has the MIAC's fifth-fastest time in the 600 meters (1:23.31). In the distance events, senior Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville), junior Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and senior Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) all rank in the top nine of the rankings for the 5000 meters, while McKee, Edwards and senior Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) are looking to score in the 3000 meters.

In the field events, senior Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central), the defending MIAC indoor champion in the triple jump, ranks second in the MIAC in the triple jump and eighth in the long jump this season. First year Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) has the eighth-best triple jump in the MIAC heading into the weekend. Junior Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) broke the school record in the weight throw for the third time this season with a toss of 16.04 (52-7.5). He ranks sixth in the MIAC, with senior Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) ranking eighth.

Tickets for the Friday and Saturday sessions are $12 for adults and $3 for students per session. Two-day passes are $27 for adults and $9 for students. All ticket sales will be handled online by HomeTown Ticketing.
