NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team performed well at the Ole Open, hosted by St. Olaf on Saturday. The meet served as the final tune-up before next week's MIAC Championships, which will also take place at St. Olaf.
The Scots earned two first-place finishes in the field events. Senior
Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) won the hammer throw with a toss of 47.18 meters (154-9). Sophomore
Ataa Mensah (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) registered a leap of 13.79 meters (45-3) to win the triple jump.
Sophomore
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) took second in the shot put with a mark of 14.52 meters (47-7.75). First year
Alex Peters (Belle Plaine, Minn./Jordan) was seventh in the shot put with a toss of 10.88 meters (35-8.5). Mills also was third in the discus with a toss of 41.86 meters (137-4), with Porto taking sixth (38.74m/127-1).
On the track, senior
Henry Shonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) placed third in the 400 meters in 50.30. First year
Drew Morral (Philippi, W.Va./Philip Barbour) was fourth in the 100 meters in 11.09, and took sixth in the 200 meters in 23.13. Senior
Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) also competed in the 200 and finished seventh in 23.17. First year
Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) placed fifth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.96.
The MIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships take place May 8-9 at St. Olaf.
