Men’s Track & Field: Three School Records Highlight Tostrud Classic

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team recorded three school records on Friday at St. Olaf's Tostrud Classic. The meet served as the Scots' final tune up before next week's MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. No team scores were kept.

For the third week in a row, junior Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) broke the school record in the weight throw. His mark of 16.04 meters (52-7.5) tops his old record of 15.95 and ranks sixth in the MIAC this season. Senior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) broke his own school record in the 200 meters by .01, running a 22.34 to take first. Junior Sebastian Stefanowicz (Portland, Ore./Valley Catholic) broke an 18-year old record in the 60-meter hurdles, taking fifth with a time of 8.84. The old mark of 8.85 was set in 2007 by Alex Rosselli '10.

Other Scots running well include senior Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton), who finished second in the 800 meters in 1:57.23, which ranks fifth all-time at Macalester. Junior Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) was third in the 400 meters in 53.22. The trio of senior Reece McKee (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville), junior Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and senior Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished fourth through sixth in the mile, with Ihrke's time of 4:22.16 ranking eighth all-time at Macalester.

In the field events, senior Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) placed second (13.34 meters/43-9.25) and first year Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) finished third (13.01/42-8.25). First year Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.31 (43-8).

Next up for Macalester is the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held at Saint John's University Feb. 27-Mar. 1 in Collegeville, Minn.
