COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Macalester men's track & field team competed at the Saint John's Invitational today. The Scots had two individual winners, junior
Reece McKee (Charlotte, Va./Charlottesville) in the 3000m Steeplechase and senior
Samuel Vanspriell (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park) in the 5000m.
McKee finished atop the pack with a time of 9:27.99, a new meet record for the 3000m Steeplechase. Sophomore
Jordan Galloway (Portland, Ore./Grant) finished seventh in the event with a personal best time of 10:29.12. The Scots finished 1-2 in the 5000m, with Vanspriell taking the top spot in a personal best time of 16:29.48, while first year
Gabe Thompson (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) came in behind him (17:02.21). In the 110m hurdles, sophomore
Hamza Mahamud (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) took sixth with a time of 16.97. In the 800m, senior
Drew Getty (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) finished sixth with a time of 1:59.20. Juniors
Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) and
Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) took third (4:05.75) and seventh (4:07.74) respectively in the 1500m. In the 4x400m relay the team of Getty, junior
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings), sophomore
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault), and first year
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) took second with a time of 3:28.65, while the team of sophomores
Thomas Malecha (Faribault, Minn.) and
Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina), junior
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park), and first year
Makol Chuol (Eldoret, Kenya/A.I.C Ebenezer Academy) took fifth (3:44.19).
In the field, junior
Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 13.50m (44' 3.50"). Senior
Justin Veimau (Hillsboro, Ore./Catlin Gabel) finished fifth with a mark of 12.47m (40' 11").
Macalester's next meet will be Thursday April 25 and Saturday April 27. The Scots host the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational.
