Men’s Track & Field: Williams, Heitler Earn All-MIAC Honors

St. Paul, Minn. – Ten Macalester College men's track and field athletes were honored with year-end awards, announced by the conference today. The top three finishers in each individual event and the winning relay teams at last weekend's MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships earned All-MIAC status, while places 4-6 in the individual events and places 2-6 in the relays received All-MIAC honorable mention. The Sportsmanship team was also announced.


First year Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) earned All-MIAC honors in two events. Heitler took second in the 400-meter dash. He registered the second-fastest time in Macalester history and a personal best mark with a time of 48.16. Heitler also finished third in the 200-meter dash, in a time of 21.89. This mark is also a personal best and second-best in school history. Sophomore Caleb Williams (Wild Rose, Wis./Wild Rose) earned All-MIAC honors in two events as well. Williams finished second in both the long jump and the triple jump. In the long jump, Williams registered a personal best mark of 6.98 meters (22' 10.75"), which is the fourth best jump in school history. In the triple jump, Williams registered a mark of 14.00 meters (45' 11.25") which is also a personal best and the fifth best mark in Macalester history.
 
Senior J.J. Arimi (Ashland, Ohio, Ashland), and first years Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills), and Jeff Wang (Harleysville, PA/North Penn) earned All-MIAC honorable mention. Arimi took fourth in the triple jump registering a personal record mark of 13.86 meters (45' 5.75") and the eighth best mark in Macalester history. Arimi also earned All-MIAC honorable mention in the long jump, placing fifth with a jump of 6.75 meters (22' 1.75"). Menache took fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 41.71 meters (136' 10"). On the track, Wang completed the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 54.81. Wang set a personal record and recorded the third-fastest time in school history in the event to take fifth.
 
Two relay teams were also recognized as All-MIAC honorable mention. The 4x400 meter relay team of Wang, Arimi, Heitler, and sophomore Drew Getty (Colorado Springs, Colo./Cheyenne Mountain) finished fifth with a time of 3:23.65. In addition, the 4x800 meter relay team of Getty, first years Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) and Brock Adams (Corona, Calif./Santiago) and sophomore and Mateo Useche (Pichincha, Ecuador/Colegio Americano de Quito) placed registered a fifth-place finish in a time of 7:57.83.
 
Sophomore Justin Veimau (Hillsboro, Ore./Catlin Gabel) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team.
 
Maguire Petersen of Saint John's was named Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year and Coach Jeremy Karger-Gatzow was named the Coach of the year. Click here to view all the MIAC awards.
