Edwin Reyes Herrera
Hometown:
Sonoma, Calif.
Major: Linguistics, Spanish
Plans after graduation: "I am staying in the Twin Cities area and pursuing a career in data science."
Highlights as a Scot: Helped the Scots set the school record in the 4x400-meter relay at the MIAC Indoor Championships this winter… A member of the distance medley relay team that finished seventh at the conference indoor meet last month… Ran personal bests in the 800 and mile this winter… Also a key member of the Scots' cross country squad.

Coach Schofer: "Edwin's outgoing and fun personality has contributed greatly to our men's team culture. He is also a hard worker and tough racer who has been successful in an amazing range of events, from the 400 to the 8k."

Favorite memory as a Scot: "My favorite memory was running the Med Ball mile on Labor Day every year during cross country preseason. In particular, this past final season, I had to run it alone because I was unable to do it with the rest of the team on Labor Day. I remember all of my teammates being around the track cheering me on and when I finished, they all crowded around me and patted me on my back and congratulated me. I wasn't feeling great emotionally and I was able to open up when they were all crowded around me and they all embraced me and gave me so much love.

"My other favorite memory was when we started the outdoor season my sophomore year during a time period when the snow would not stop, causing many of our early meets to be canceled. This forced our team to travel to Grinnell for a track meet that ended up being so much fun because it was a small meet and everyone that attended bought in to running hard and embracing the change in scenery from usually running around the Twin Cities. I remember I ran my first 5k and won at this meet. That's when I really felt like our team bonded and set the tone for the rest of the season."
