Women’s Track & Field: Eight Scots Among All-MIAC Honorees

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Five individuals and a relay team from the Macalester College women's track & field team were recognized, as the MIAC announced its year-end awards today. The top three finishers in each event at the MIAC Outdoor Championships earned All-MIAC status, while places 4-6 received honorable mention.

In the field events, junior Tessa Myatt (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) broke the school record in the shot put with a toss of 13.36 meters (43-10) to finish second. The old mark of 13.28 meters (43-7) was set by Janis Raatz '88 in 1988. Myatt also earned All-MIAC status in the high jump, clearing a personal-best 1.61 meters (5-3.25) to take third. The mark ranks fifth all-time at Macalester.

Also earning All-MIAC honors was junior Jessica Lin (Bedford, Mass./Bedford), who finished third in the hammer throw with a season-best mark of 48.85 meters (160-3).

On the track, sophomore Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) took second in the 1500 meters on Friday with a time of 4:38.43, which ranks second on Macalester's all-time performance list. She also anchored the 4x800-meter relay team that included sophomore Tilia Iverson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville), first year Aubrey Jensen(Floresville, Texas) and sophomore Kyra Morris(Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) to a second-place finish with a time of 9:23.38, the third-best time ever run at Macalester. On Saturday, Fox turned in a third-place performance in the 5000 meters in 17:42.43. 

Junior Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy) received All-MIAC honorable mention in both the 5000 and 10,000 meters. She took fourth in the 10,000 in 38:55.08 and was sixth in the 5000 with a time of 18:19.47. Senior Brooke Boroughs (Monroe, Wash./Monroe) placed fifth in the javelin with a toss of 34.93 meters (114-7). 

Carleton senior Hannah Preisser was voted the Women's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, while Bethel senior Ellie Hernes was selected as the Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. St. Olaf first-year Claire Stein was chosen the Women's Rookie of the Year and Concordia head coach Marv Roeske received the Women's Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year award.
