ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team participated in the Gopher Classic at the University of Minnesota Saturday afternoon. Several Scots did well at the meet, including sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who broke the school record in the mile.
Ihrke finished sixth in the race with a time of 4:15.66, which breaks the old mark of 4:16.43, set last year by
Reece McKee '25. The time also ranks third in the MIAC so far this season. Last weekend at the St. Olaf Invitational, Ihrke broke his own school record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:53.39, which ranks 10th in Division III.
Also in the mile, junior
Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) took second in the unseeded mile race with a time of 4:20.93, which ranks eighth on Macalester's all-time performance list. Senior
Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) finished third in the 600 meters with a time of 1:25.18. He also ran a personal best time of 23.67 in the 200 meters.
In the field events, sophomore
Ataa Mensah (St. Paul, Minn./Roseville) was sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 13.25 meters (43-5.75). Mensah also placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters (6-0.75).
The Scots head to Carleton College next weekend, Feb. 14 for the Meet of Hearts in Northfield, Minn.
