Women’s Track & Field: Macalester Ready for MIAC Championships

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College women's track & field team heads to Carleton College this weekend for the MIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Feb. 26-28 in Northfield, Minn. The Scots are looking to improve upon last year's seventh-place finish that saw the team score 52 points.

Competition begins Thursday with the pentathlon. Junior Tessa Myatt (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) has the fourth-best score among MIAC competitors this season with a personal-best 3150, which is 42 points away from the school record.

Leading the way for Macalester on the track is sophomore All-American Ariella Rogahn-Press (Albuquerque, N.M./Bosque School), who has the fastest times in the MIAC this season in both the 200 and 400 meters. In fact, her time in the 400 (54.60) ranks second in Division III and her 200 time of 25.15 is 17th on the Division III performance list. Rogahn-Press, who was sixth at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in the 400 last year, also is competing in the 55 meters and the relays this weekend.

Sophomore Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) has the best time in the MIAC in the mile (5:03.18) and ranks sixth in the MIAC in the 1000 meters, an event in which she placed sixth last year. First year Eva Abreu (Havertown, Pa./Havertown) has the fourth-fastest time in the 55-meter hurdles and ranks sixth in the 55-meter dash. Junior Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy) is seventh on the entry list for the 5000 meters and 11th for the 3000 meters.

In the field events, Myatt is the defending champion in the shot put and has a season-best mark of 12.48 meters (40-11.5). Juniors Harmony-Keli Tomety (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook East) and Jessica Lin (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) look to score in the long jump and weight throw, respectively.

Tickets for the Friday and Saturday sessions are $13 for adults and $4 for students per session. All ticket sales will be handled online by HomeTown Ticketing.
