NORTHFIELD, Minn. - The Macalester College women's track & field team took to the track on Valentine's Day at the Meet of Hearts, hosted by Carleton College on Saturday. The Scots did well with multiple top finishes across both track and field events.
Leading the way in the distance events, sophomore
Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) came away with two victories. Fox captured first place in both the 1000m run with a time of 3:03.65 and the mile run in 5:03.18. Her mile performance ranks third in school history. First year
Aubrey Jensen (Floresville, Texas/Floresville) rounded out the mile scoring with a fifth-place finish in 5:23.19. In the 1000m, sophomore
Tilia Iverson (Roseville, Minn./College of Charleston) took second place, coming in seconds behind Fox with a time of 3:09.47.
First year
Eva Abreu (Havertown, Pa./Haverford) had an exceptional meet, winning the 400m dash in 1:00.11: that ranks ninth in school history. Sophomore
Claire Beckley (Carlisle, Mass./Concord Carlisle) placed third in the 200m dash with a time of 27.10. First year
Lucy Taylor (Park City, Utah/Park City) finished fourth in the 800m dash in 2:35.58, while junior
Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy) took sixth in the 3000m run with a time of 10:33.15.
Abreu added a seventh-place finish in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.25.
The Scots' 4x200m relay team of Abreu, Wilkins, Cunningham, and Beckley narrowly missed victory, finishing second in 1:49.65: just five-hundredths of a second behind the winners.
In the field events, the Scots showed strength in the long jump. Junior
Harmony-Keli Tomety (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook East) finished fifth with a mark of 4.88m, followed by junior
Tessa Myatt (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) in sixth place at 4.86m. Beckley added an eighth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 4.74m.
Myatt also competed in the throwing events, taking third place in the shot put with a mark of 11.09m. Junior
Jessica Lin (Bedford, Mass./Bedford) finished second in the weight throw with a distance of 14.22m.
The Scots will return to action next weekend at the Tostrud Classic in Northfield, for their final meet preceding MIAC indoor championships.
