ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Macalester College men's track and field team competed in the Bethel University Invite today in a meet without team scores where they logged multiple nationally-ranked Division III times and first year John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) won the 800 meters.
Ihrke's 1:54.75 finish broke into the D-III ranks at number 63 in the country and landed him sixth in program history. Right behind him was senior Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park), who placed third in 1:55.21 to land 81st in the country and tie him at eighth in program history. In the 400 meters, senior Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) placed fifth in 47.63. That time sits at 12th in D-III this season.
Sophomores Quinn Hoisington (Seattle, Wash./Lincoln) placed eighth in a personal best 4:09.40 and Owen Lafferty (Woodbury, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) placed 20th in a personal best 4:15.85 in the 1500 meters.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Heitler, Ali, junior Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) and Ihrke finished sixth in a program second-best 3:19.16, good for 28th in D-III.
In the field, the Scot discus throwers stood out. Junior Austin Mills (Eugene, Ore./Winston Churchill) placed sixth with a personal best 40.92 meters, while first year Leo Koch (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) placed fourteenth with a personal best 38.02 meters.
Macalester continues the outdoor campaign next weekend with a trip to Atlanta, Ga. for the Georgia Tech Invitational from April 18-19.
