Women’s Cross Country: Scots Ranked Seventh in North Region Rankings

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's cross country team dropped one spot to No. 7 in the North Region in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association North Region rankings, which were released Tuesday. The Scots, who took 17th out of 40 teams at the Augustana Interregional Invitational on Saturday, spent the last five weeks at No. 6 in the regional rankings.

In a race that featured seven teams ranked in last week's North Region rankings and 11 teams who were nationally ranked, Macalester finished behind UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire and ahead of UW-Stevens Point, Gustavus, Ripon and UW-River Falls among last week's ranked North Region teams.

Junior Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) performed well in an outstanding field, finishing 12th out of 349 finishers with a time of 22:03.3 over the 6000-meter course. Sophomore Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) was next for the Scots, posting a time of 23:04.1 to take 64th. Junior Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy) placed 138th (23:49.6), followed closely by junior Ivy Coldren (Frederick, Md./Urbana) in 160th (24:05.5). Sophomore Tilia Iverson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville) wrapped up Macalester's top five in 236th with a time of 24:50.3.

UW-La Crosse, who won the meet at Augustana, remained in the top spot in the North Region ahead of Carleton, UW-Eau Claire, St. Olaf and UW-Stevens Point. UW-Oshkosh, who edged the Scots for 16th at Augustana, enters the rankings at No. 6, followed by Macalester, UW-Whitewater, Ripon and Gustavus.

Macalester's next race is the MIAC Championships on Nov. 1. The race will be held at Highland National Golf Course in St. Paul, Minn.
