ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Macalester College men's track & field team kicked off the 2025 indoor season at the M City Classic, hosted by the University of Minnesota on Friday. Seniors
Arlo Heitler (Hastings, N.Y./Hastings) and
Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) broke school records in their first competitions of the winter.
Heitler edged his own school record he set last year in the 60 meters, clocking a 7.02, .01 faster than the time he ran at the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic last January. He placed 10th behind nine Division I runners, just one spot out of the finals. Menache, who did not compete in track and field last season, placed fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 51-7.75 (15.74). The mark bests his own school record of 50-3.5 (15.33), set at St. Olaf on Jan. 28, 2023.
Senior
Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) finished in fourth place in the 600 meters with a time of 1:25.32, with junior
Thomas Malecha (Faribault, Minn.) placing sixth in 1:28.32. First year
Karson Sammons (Portland, Ore./Westview) also took sixth in the 300 meters in 37.74.
In the field events, senior
Riley Hodin (Buffalo, N.Y./Amherst Central) missed his personal best in the triple jump by two centimeters, taking fifth with a leap of 44-11.5 (13.70). First year
Artur Porto (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 42-4.75 (12.92).
Macalester resumes competition in January by hosting the Vanessa Seljeskog Classic on Jan. 25 in the Leonard Center Fieldhouse.
