ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's track and field team was received All-Academic Team recognition from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization announced today. In addition, Class of 2023 graduate
Journey Amundson (Iron River, Wis./Northwestern) and rising seniors
Maria Blaesing (Munster, Ind./Munster) and
Sarah Beth Hobby (South Pittsburg, Tenn./St. Andrew's-Sewanee School) were recognized as All-Academic athletes.
To qualify as an USTFCCCA All-Academic team, the program must register at least a 3.10 cumulative GPA. The Scots finished the season with a 3.7218, registering the 12
th highest GPA in Division III.
In order to received USTFCCCA All-Academic athlete distinction, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher and have either competed in an NCAA indoor or outdoor championship, or finished the regular season ranked in the national top 50 individually or top 35 in a relay.
Amundson earned All-Region honors during the outdoor season in the triple jump with a leap of 11.96m (39' 3") on April 29 at the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational. She was also a two-time MIAC Champion at the MIAC Outdoor Championships on May 12-13, winning both the triple jump and the long jump and was named Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. Amundson was also All-Region in the triple jump in the indoor season, and earned All-MIAC honors in the triple jump, long jump, and distance medley relay at the MIAC Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26.
At the conference championships, Blaesing earned All-MIAC honors in two events. She placed third in the mile with a time of 5:01.71 and placed second in the 1000m run (3:01.51). Blaesing also set a personal best in the mile of 5:00.23 at the Last Chance Meet on March 4.
Hobby earned All-MIAC honorable mention at the indoor MIAC Championships, finishing fifth in the pentathlon, with a personal best 2815 points. In the outdoor season, Hobby earned All-MIAC in the javelin throw, finishing third. She also was All-MIAC honorable mention, finishing fifth in the heptathlon with a personal record of 3866 points. At the UW-La Crosse Qualifier on May 18, Hobby set a personal record in the javelin throw of 39.04m (128' 1").
